In addition to an associate’s degree in
physical education and personal training certification from the
American Fitness Professionals & Associates, Matt is an accomplished
martial arts and boxing instructor. He is a 3rd degree in black
belt recognized by both the American Karate Institute and the
American Association of Martial Artists. He is undefeated after
6 amateur kickboxing matches and holds a fitness kickboxing certification
from the International Sports Conditioning Association.
Matt has been training people in some form of
exercise for the past 15 years and enjoys working with clients
of all ages. His passion is in helping people to improve their
cardiovascular health and increase stamina. Exercise and physical
activity has been an important part of Matt’s life since
he was very young. “I try to do some form of physical
exercise every day. I do it to feel good mentally and physically.
That is how things are with me. No exercise, no life.”
And Matt is full of life. He is exuberant and
fun to be around. He is great at creating work outs that keep
his clients challenged and motivated, drawing on his range of
expertise to mix things up and keep it interesting. For example,
“Most people think boxing is for, well, boxers. Not
true. Anyone can box. It is a great cardio and strength building
work out. It is great to see the thrill people get, who have never
even had a pair of gloves on, when they start hitting a bag or
mitt. It can build confidence in other ways too.”
Matt joined Lifestages Fitness primarily because
“I wanted to be in an organization that has the best personal
trainers where everyone works together as a team and where you
can learn from and grow with each other. That’s missing
in most gyms and fitness companies.”
Matt lives in Fairfax with his wife and dogs
and works with LifeStages Fitness clients at the Fitness First
gyms in Reston and Chantilly*. He also offers in-home training
to clients living in Fairfax County.
